The Mothman is a six to seven foot tall flying creature with red eyes and a wingspan of about ten feet. From Brad Olsen's Sacred Places North America, the unearthy entity was said to take
off stright up in the air without using its wings, and would chase
cars near the Chief Cornstalk Hunting Grounds, the location of an
abandoned World War 2 ammunition dump. Most of the sightings of the
Mothman occured through the years of 1966-1967 around Point Pleasant, West Virginia. There were many sightings of the Mothman at
first, but once the Silver Bridge collapsed in December of 1967, the
sightings died down. Some thought of the Mothman as a Fallen Angel
that came to warn them about the disasters that were to take place.
Whenever the collapse of the Silver Bridge occured, John Keel, "an
author who specializes in UFO phenomena, took the eye witness accounts and put them together in a book called The Mothman
Prophecies in 1975," which was later made into a movie staring
Richard Gere (Condon). Since then however, many people have still
reported seeing the Mothman around many places just before
destruction occured. As I have said before, wherever the Mothman
was spotted it was no surprise that destruction followed.
